Real Madrid are undoubtedly favourites to reach another Champions League final this season, following a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena earlier this week. Carlo Ancelotti’s side only need a victory to progress to next month’s showpiece event at Wembley Stadium, and they’ve received a boost in their pursuit of victory.

That’s because Bayern have confirmed that Raphael Guerreiro has been ruled out of the return leg after suffering an ankle injury against Stuttgart on Saturday. The Portuguese defender played the second half against Real Madrid in the first meeting, but he will play no part at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Guerreiro has proven himself to be incredibly versatile over the course of the 2023-24 campaign, so Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel has lost an option at left-back, in midfield and on the left wing all in one. It certainly makes it more difficult for them to become the first team all season to defeat Real Madrid in their own back yard, which they need to do to progress to the Champions League final.
