Jon Gruden and the Las Vegas Raiders parted ways late Monday evening after a batch of racist, homophobic, misogynistic and otherwise offensive emails he sent went public.
This of course came on the heels of the last batch of similarly derogatory e-mails from him that went viral last week.
In light of everything that transpired, many began to wonder what would happen to Jon’s son, Deuce.
Deuce joined his dad with the then-Oakland Raiders when Jon signed his 10-year, $100 million contract in 2018 to serve as the assistant strength and conditioning coach.
So will Deuce stay on in light of his father’s embarrassments?
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the answer is yes.
“Even with his father resigning tonight as the Raiders’ head coach, Deuce Gruden remains the team’s strength and conditioning assistant coach,” he wrote.
Deuce, 27, has worked in the NFL since 2016 when he was named strength and conditioning intern for the Washington Football Team.
At the time, the Washington Football Team was coached by his uncle, Jay Gruden, Jon’s brother.
It will be interesting to see where this situation goes from here. Obviously Raiders owner Mark Davis loves Jon and likely wants to help him by keeping his son employed, but it’s also likely a bit awkward for all parties involved given the contents of Jon’s e-mails.
