Justin Thomas holes out incredible chip shot for birdie at PGA Championship

Justin Thomas just pulled off an incredible shot Saturday afternoon to put himself back into contention for the PGA Championship.

CBS Sports posted a short clip showing Thomas’ birdie on the par 3 No. 14. He chipped from the fringes of the green, with his shot clearing two bunkers then rolling into the hole. The birdie put Thomas, the former Alabama great, at nine under par.

CBS captioned the clip “HOW DID JT DO THIS?!” And yes, they used all caps. It was an all-caps kind of golf shot, especially for moving day at the PGA.

Plus, add this detail to what Thomas did. Hole No. 14 is playing the second toughest at Valhalla, the course playing host to the PGA and the best golfers in the world. The average score on the hole is 3.23. There have been only 21 birdies, with 94 bogeys. We won’t mention the six double bogeys.

Thomas started the round at -6. He has won the PGA Championship two times. The first was in 2017, the second came in 2022.

His birdie on 14 was his 15th of the tournament. That places him ninth in the field.

Saturday’s round, overall, was all about the golf and players posting incredible shots. With a 62, Shane Lowry even tied the PGA championship record for low round. He finished the round with an overall score of 12 under. That put him in a tie for first place with Xander Schauffele. Coincidentally, Schauffele set the record of 62 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Scottie Scheffler arrest from Friday drifted into the background.
